MEETING THE NETWORK: Prof. Dr. Gabriel Zachmann & the University of Bremen
For this edition of Meeting the network, we are pleased to introduce one of our founding members: Prof. Dr. Gabriel Zachmann, Professor at the Center for Computing Technologies (TZI) at the University of Bremen.
He joined EuroVR Association at its inception in 2010:
“My motivation for joining EuroVR was the opportunity to initiate collaboration in areas such as virtual reality, geometric computing, medical simulation, digital health, VR for robotics, and visual computing. I was interested in contributing to common EU proposals and helping to shape the EuroVR conference”.
THE UNIVERSITY OF BREMEN
At the University of Bremen, Prof. Dr. Gabriel Zachmann works for the Center for Computing Technologies (TZI) conducting research on various aspects of the digital revolution. All research is based on the same set of values: How can we make sure that new digital technologies will be safe, reliable, sustainable, and beneficial for society? VR and AR are an area where we have developed expertise over decades.
Current projects include the Hip Prosthesis Implantation Simulator, which involves creating realistic physics simulations, including force feedback, when the bone mill drills into the hip bone; and VIVATOP, where researchers are collaborating to introduce VR, AR, and 3D printing as tools for the surgical treatment of liver tumors.
Dr. Zachmann is also involved in a project that increases the safety of self-driving cars. Other TZI researchers cover a range of additional areas such as the previsualisation of movie scenes and theatre productions.
