MEETING THE NETWORK: Prof. Dr. Gabriel Zachmann & the University of Bremen

For this edition of Meeting the network, we are pleased to introduce one of our founding members: Prof. Dr. Gabriel Zachmann, Professor at the Center for Computing Technologies (TZI) at the University of Bremen.
He joined EuroVR Association at its inception in 2010:

 

“My motivation for joining EuroVR was the opportunity to initiate collaboration in areas such as virtual reality, geometric computing, medical simulation, digital health, VR for robotics, and visual computing. I was interested in contributing to common EU proposals and helping to shape the EuroVR conference”.

Meeting the network: AVR Lab

On June 24th starts the 6th International Conference on Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Computer Graphics (Salento AVR 2019) in Santa Maria al Bagno (Lecce, Italy) organized by the Augmented and Virtual Reality Laboratory (AVR Lab) of the Department of Engineering for Innovation of the University of Salento as well as a member of EuroVR.

Meeting the network: STIIMA-CNR

Here we are with our standing appointment: “Meeting the network“. Today EuroVR is glad to introduce its member STIIMA-CNR.

STIIMA-CNR stands for “Institute of Intelligent Industrial Technologies and Systems for Advanced Manufacturing of the National Council of Research in Italy”. The Institute’s strategic mission is the growth of competitiveness and sustainability of manufacturing in Italy and Europe through industrial innovation.

EuroVR President, Marco Sacco, is Senior Research Scientist and Head of STIIMA-CNR subsidiary in Lecco & EVA (Enterprise Engineering and Virtual Application) division. He is active in the VR field for over 20 years mainly in Manufacturing and Health Care Sectors, leading research projects which aim to support industrial research and the transfer of research results to companies.

Meeting the network: Virtual Dimension Center (VDC)

The Virtual Dimension Center (VDC) is the protagonist of this new article for the category “Meeting the Network”.

VDC is Germany’s leading competence network for Virtual Engineering. Based in Fellbach, it joined EuroVR Association in 2009 to get in touch with international experts in VR & AR and exchange know-how as well as experience in this fast-evolving field.
VDC strongly believe in the Association’s purposes so much that Christoph Runde, General Manager of the Virtual Dimension Center, is EuroVR Vice-President “Industry & End-user.

Meeting the network: Laval Virtual

We are glad to introduce one of the corporate members of our international network: Laval virtual.
Laval Virtual joined EuroVR Association in 2014, and in the 20 years of its existence, this organization has established itself as a major facilitator for institutions active in the VR/AR and immersive techniques sector. It gathers and leads a community of professionals through the organization of events and conference programmes in Europe and Asia and provides various information services.

From 20th to 24th March 2019, virtual and augmented reality professionals from around the world will gather in Laval, France, for the 21st Laval Virtual show.
The 10,000 professional visitors expected, experts, savvy or keen to learn about immersive technologies, will be able to learn, interact and discover the numerous surprises that this leading international show has in store.

Last year at Laval Virtual 2018, the show welcomed over 320 exhibitors spanning 9,000 m2, involving over 150 speakers and attracting more than 18,500 visitors over 5 days.

Meeting the network: Haption

We want to inaugurate the new category “Meeting the network” with one of the founding member of EuroVR Association: Haption.

Haption is a company which designs, manufactures and sells hardware and software solutions based on force-feedback. Founded in 2001, the company partners with the most advanced leaders to provide professional level force-feedback solutions for medical, robotic, nuclear and industrial applications. Haption has a lot of interest in Virtual Reality where their haptic device brings the sense of contact inside Virtual Environments, a thing no other technology can claim to bring.

From VR to XR Expo 2019 – 3,4 July 2019

It is time again: on 3-4. July 2019, the XR Expo takes place in Stuttgart (Germany).  The focus of the event is on professional applications in industry, architecture, trading, medicine and crafting in virtual, augmented and mixed reality.

For the 2019 edition, VR expo has changed its name in XR Expo to put the focus on mixed reality technologies. XR Expo aims to be the community and meeting point for industry users, technology providers, content service providers, and researchers:

VR4REHAB Belgian Hackathon: Bruges 25-27 October 2018

The project VR4REHAB is getting to the last Hackathon, which will take place in Bruges on 25, 26 and 27 October 2018.

The event, co-organized by EuroVR and Sint Maartenskliniek, consists in a 2-days workshop which gathers together entrepreneurs, patients, rehabilitation personnel as well as technical specialists to find out new ideas concerning rehabilitation with VR.

The project VR4REHAB

Virtual Reality (VR) is growing rapidly especially in the fields of health-care and rehabilitation. While this technology makes therapy more fun, challenging and measurable, the state of VR is still in its infancy.

The three-year project VR4REHAB will change rehabilitative care dramatically. It aims to develop new VR-applications that promote better function and outcomes for patients with disabilities.

What are we looking for?

Together, we are working to find solution for 5 themes in rehabilitation:

  • Pain management
  • Engagement and immersion to promote treatment adherence
  • Behavioural therapy after Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Lower limbs and mobility
  • Training of upper limb movements

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people with different personal and professional backgrounds:

  • Patients
  • Healthcare professionals in rehabilitation medicine
  • Designers
  • Developers
  • Entrepreneurs

VR4REHAB is a three-year project financed by the InterReg NWE Programme that includes seven European partners, like Sint Maartenskliniek, European Association of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, St. Mauritius Therapieklinik, Teesside University, Royal Free London NHS Trust, Université de Lille 1 – Sciences et Technologies and Games for Health Europe, which are working together to realize the innovation potential that emerges from the intersection of VR-technologies and the demand from rehabilitation clinics’ specialists.

VR in industry-Congress Fair in Aachen-4th July

4th July 2018: after the first successful workshop in 2017, RWTH Aachen University is pleased to announce the second “VR in Industry – Congress Fair in Aachen”.

The event will be hosted by TEMA-Technology and Marketing in the city of Aachen, Germany, and it represents a chanche to find out the possibilities offered by virtual- and augmented reality, not only for new product development opportunities and new distribution channels, but also completely new ways of training customers and employees.

The program of the conference is wide: Prof. Latoschik, one of the most renowned VR scientists in Germany, will hold a Keynote Talk concerning the theme “From (A)vatars zu (Z)ero Latency”.

Beyond this lecture the event includes also many exciting initiative, like “VR in Science and Industry – Network NRW e.V.“ which will be presented closely to the workshop.
